'Customizable'
test bed for special extensions applications
GATE is designed as a flexible test bed for satellite navigation users, before GALILEO itself becomes available. But with this evolutionary
extension capability, GATE can continue to be used for special tasks, even if the GALILEO satellite navigation system has already
become fully operational. Examples for such application scenarios could be:
Adding PRS signals
Adding GPS L2C signals
Adding DGNSS correction data (extension for GALILEO local components)
Adding interference to the generated signals (for 'signal quality monitoring' experimentation)
Adding local components as soon as GALILEO is available (e.g., a test bed
for high-precision landing approaches using CATI, II, III)
Adjusting signal power levels according to special user needs, beyond the GATE
Virtual Satellite Mode
GATE will provide test capabilities suited for e.g. the following application areas:
Road/Automotive applications
Personal navigation
(hiking, skiing, mountain-biking
etc.)
Search-and-Rescue
(SAR), e.g. mountain rescue
Rail/maritime
applications (limited user area)
As the only 'Satellite Navigation User Test Bed' in the world, GATE was conceived to cover a broad range of applications. Through suited configurations of the system, there is still a lot of potential inside of GATE, to cover different application scenarios, currently not foreseen.
